When we talk about our hair everybody seems to have an opinion. But how can we ever separate the hair fairy-tails from the plain truth? We think mostly from experience, obviously.
Here are some of the facts and fiction about hair:
Standing On Your Head Makes Your Hair Grow – FICTION
Funny enough it appears that some people believe this myth. Well, we know hair loss is not a blood flow problem. Even if increased blood flow can help hair to grow, you could not stay on your head long enough to have an effect on the hair follicles.
Only Old People Are Balding – FACT
Male and female hair loss gets more common as we age. However, another type of hair loss called alopecia areata is registered even with children and young adults as well. It could result in complete baldness. And don’t forget, thining hair can affect farely young male and female of the species alike.
There’s No Cure For Baldness – FICTION
While there is no one single “miracle cure” for everybody there are certainly a variety of ways like certain types of drugs, laser therapy, hair transplants or Hair Loss Solutions method.
Sun Exposure Causes Hair Problem – PARTLY FACT
Ultraviolet or UV rays doesn’t cause any disruptive processes in the hair follicles, not in the way like they do with the skin. Remember though, prolonged exposure to UV rays can dehydrate hair, making it dull, breakable and vulnerable.
High Testosterone Causes Hair Loss – FICTION
The sensitivity to dihydrotestosterone or DHT (a hormone and natural compound of testosterone) can cause hair loss in men and women. For some male taking testosterone this could accelerate the hair loss considerably.
Stress Can Cause Hair Loss – FACT
We know of at least two types hair loss that is caused by stress. First is the Telogen Effluvium. The hair stops growing and falls out 2 or 3 months later and grows back within 6 – 9 months. Second one is Alopecia Areata. The hair falls out within weeks. It can involve the entire scalp and even body hair. Hair grows back naturally, but a treatment will be required.
Hair Loss Comes From The Mother’s Side – FICTION
In fact, there are approximately 200 genes that regulate hair and hair growth. There are generally some genes from both sides of the family that play a role. Mother’s father deserves some of the ‘blame’ but not all of it.
Hats Can Cause Baldness – FICTION
Hats can not cause hair loss in any shape or form. Ever.
You Can Grow Back Dead Follicles – FICTION
Some treatments can help hair follicles grow thicker and healthier, but once the follicle is dead, it’s gone.
